Can you wear mascara with lash extensions? Most lash artists ask you not to wear it on the extensions themselves, and the good news is that with a set designed for your eyes you will not want to. Eye make-up is still possible, as long as you choose the right products and take them off gently. Your lash map decides the look, and your set does the work mascara used to do.

Why mascara and lash extensions do not mix

Mascara is made to coat, thicken and set natural lashes. On extensions it clumps fine lashes together, adds weight to the bond and is hard to remove without rubbing. Rubbing is what loosens extensions and pulls on the natural lashes underneath. Waterproof mascara is the hardest of all to remove, so it is best avoided completely.

Why you will not miss it

Every set at The Ffrench Lash is designed around you at your consultation, from the most delicate Teddy Bare, with its soft mascara finish, to the sleek, high-shine Gloss. The point of a designed set is that you wake up with the length, lift and definition you would otherwise build with mascara. If you are choosing between them, our guide to Teddy Bare, Teddy, Vogue and Gloss explains the difference.

Can you wear eye make-up with lash extensions?

Yes. A few simple choices keep your set safe:

  • Choose oil-free products. Oil softens the bond, so check eye creams, primers and removers.
  • Go easy on the lash line. Eyeliner pencils and powder shadows are kinder than thick, oily formulas pressed into the base of the lashes.
  • Keep products off the extensions. Apply around the lashes, not on them.
  • If you must wear mascara, keep it to the tips of your lower lashes only and remove it gently the same day.

How to remove make-up without losing lashes

Removal is where most sets are damaged. Use an oil-free remover, work gently around the eye rather than across the lashes, rinse, and pat dry. Never rub a cotton pad across your set. Your complimentary aftercare bag includes what you need to care for your new lashes, and our lash extension aftercare guide walks through cleansing step by step.

Skincare around the eyes

Rich eye creams and facial oils can creep into the lash line as you sleep. Apply them below the orbital bone and away from the lashes, and choose lighter, oil-free formulas where you can.

Questions clients ask

Can I use a lash curler on extensions?

No. A curler can bend and break extensions and pull on natural lashes. The curl and lift are designed into your set.

Can I wear false lashes on top of extensions?

It is best not to. Lash glue on top of your set adds weight and is hard to remove safely.
