How you sleep has more effect on your lash extensions than almost anything else you do. Eight hours with your face pressed into a pillow bends, twists and loosens lashes on that side, night after night. A few small changes keep your set even and help it last until your revive.

The best way to sleep with lash extensions

On your back is ideal, because nothing touches your lashes. If you are a side sleeper, you do not have to change completely. Try to start the night on your back and, if you turn, notice which side you favour. An even set at your revive shows you are doing well. A thinner patch on one side usually tells us which side you sleep on.

Sleeping face down

Sleeping face down is the hardest position for a lash set. It presses the lashes against the pillow all night and can bend them out of shape. If it is how you sleep, a contoured sleep mask that sits away from the eyes is worth trying.

Pillowcases

A smooth pillowcase, such as silk or satin, causes less friction than cotton. Lashes glide rather than catch, which is kinder to both your extensions and your natural lashes.

Sleep masks

A standard flat sleep mask presses directly on your lashes, so avoid it. Look for a contoured mask with raised cups that sit around the eyes without touching the lashes.

Your evening routine

  • Remove eye make-up gently with an oil-free remover. Our guide on mascara and make-up with lash extensions explains how.
  • Keep rich night creams and oils away from the lash line.
  • Make sure your lashes are dry before you go to bed.

Your morning routine

Take a minute to brush through your lashes with a clean, soft brush. It sets them back in place and stops any crossing from the night. Do not tug or pull at a lash that looks out of place. It will shed naturally, and pulling takes natural lashes with it.

Questions clients ask

Can I sleep straight after my appointment?

Yes. The bond is still settling on the first night, so try to sleep on your back if you can.

Why is one eye thinner than the other?

It is very often the side you sleep on. Tell us at your next visit and we can plan for it.

Will sleeping on my side ruin my set?

No, but it will usually shed a little faster on that side. A smooth pillowcase helps.
