How long do lash extensions last? A set lasts as long as the natural lashes it is attached to, which is why it slowly thins over the weeks after your appointment rather than falling out all at once. With good aftercare and a revive appointment within two weeks, you can keep your set looking full for as long as you like.
Here is what actually happens to your lashes after you leave the studio, and how to get the most from every set.
Why lash extensions do not last forever
Each extension is attached to a single natural lash. Your natural lashes grow, rest and shed in a continuous cycle, a few at a time, every day. When a natural lash reaches the end of its life and falls, the extension attached to it falls with it. That is normal, healthy and exactly what should happen.
It also means no artist can promise a set that stays perfect for months. What a good set does is shed gradually and evenly, so it still looks soft and intentional as it thins.
How long a lash set lasts, week by week
- The first few days. Your set is at its fullest. The bond settles, so this is when aftercare matters most.
- Around one to two weeks. You will start to notice the odd gap where natural lashes have shed. This is the ideal time for a revive.
- Beyond two weeks. More lashes have grown out and the set loses its shape. At The Ffrench Lash, a set that is more than two weeks old needs a new full set, so it can be designed and applied properly.
What a revive does
A revive refreshes, restores and revives your current set. We replace the extensions that have shed, tidy the ones that have grown out and bring the shape of your lash map back. Revives are for sets applied by The Ffrench Lash, within two weeks of your full set, and take 1 hour 35 minutes.
- Teddy Bare Revive: £60
- Teddy Revive: £65
- Vogue Revive: £70
- Gloss Revive: £75
You can see every set, revive and price on the collection. If you are not sure why the two-week window matters, our guide on why lash revives matter explains it in more detail.
What makes lash extensions last longer
Most of what decides how long your set lasts happens after you leave the studio. The habits that help most:
- Follow your aftercare advice. You will leave with your complimentary aftercare bag. The advice inside is written for your set, so it always comes first.
- Keep them clean. Make-up, oil and everyday build-up weaken the bond. Gentle, regular cleansing keeps lashes fresh.
- Hands off. Rubbing, picking and pulling take natural lashes out with the extensions, which is bad for both.
- Think about how you sleep. Pressing your face into the pillow every night bends and loosens lashes on that side.
- Choose a set that suits your natural lashes. A set designed around the strength of your own lashes stays comfortable and sheds evenly. That is what your lash map is for.
We go through each of these properly in our lash extension aftercare guide.
What can make a set shed faster
Some things are outside your control. Lashes can shed more quickly during hormonal changes, including pregnancy, which is why we ask you to let us know when you book. Heat, steam and oily skincare around the eyes can also shorten the life of a set. If your set seems to be shedding faster than usual, tell us at your next visit and we will look at it with you.
How long do lash extensions last on holiday?
Sun cream, sea water, pools and late nights all test a set. Book your full set close enough to your trip that it is fresh when you fly, keep oily sun creams away from your lash line and cleanse gently at the end of each day. Remember that a revive needs to be within two weeks of your full set, so plan the dates around your return.
Questions clients ask
Will lash extensions fall out all at once?
No. They shed gradually, a few at a time, as your natural lashes do. A set should never come away in clumps.
How often should I book a revive?
Within two weeks of your full set. After that, a new full set is needed so your lashes can be designed and applied properly.
Can I have a revive if another technician did my set?
Revives are for sets applied by The Ffrench Lash. If you are wearing another technician's extensions, book a Same-Day Consultation (£15, 20 minutes) so your set can be designed on the day, or a Clean Slate removal (£20) followed by a full set.
Keep your set at its best
A set that is designed around you, looked after at home and revived on time stays soft, full and comfortable. See the full collection of sets and revives, or book your consultation to start with a set designed for your eyes.
