Lash extensions vs lash lift: both give you lashes you do not have to think about each morning, but they work in completely different ways. A lift shapes the lashes you already have. Extensions add length, fullness and shape that your natural lashes cannot give on their own. If you want a set designed around your eye, start with a lash consultation.
Here is an honest comparison. At The Ffrench Lash we specialise in bespoke lash extensions, so we do not offer lash lifts, but we would always rather you chose the right treatment.
What is a lash lift?
A lash lift curls your natural lashes upwards from the root, so they look longer and more open. Nothing is added. The result depends entirely on the length and density of the lashes you already have, and it grows out with your natural lash cycle.
What are lash extensions?
Lash extensions are individual lashes bonded to your natural lashes, one at a time. Because they are added, they can change the length, fullness, lift and overall shape of your lashes. At The Ffrench Lash every set is planned with a digital lash map before a single lash is placed. Read what a lash map is to see how that works.
Lash extensions vs lash lift at a glance
- What changes. A lift changes the curl of your own lashes. Extensions change length, fullness, lift and shape.
- Best for. A lift suits naturally long, healthy lashes that point down or straight. Extensions suit anyone who wants more than their natural lashes can give.
- The look. A lift looks like your own lashes, curled. Extensions range from barely there to sleek and defined.
- Upkeep. A lift needs little upkeep until it grows out. Extensions are kept full with a revive within two weeks of your full set.
Who lash extensions suit best
- Shorter, finer or sparser natural lashes that a lift cannot lengthen.
- Anyone who wants a specific shape, such as a soft cat eye.
- Anyone tired of mascara who wants a finished look every morning.
- Eye shapes that benefit from carefully placed length and lift, such as hooded eyes.
Who a lash lift may suit better
- Naturally long, healthy lashes that just need a curl.
- Anyone who wants the most natural possible result with almost no upkeep.
- Anyone who would rather not book regular revives.

Questions clients ask
Which lasts longer, a lash lift or extensions?
They last in different ways. A lift grows out with your natural lashes. Extensions shed gradually and are kept full with revives within two weeks of your full set.
Can I have extensions if I have had a lash lift?
Tell us at your consultation, including when your lift was done, so your set can be designed around how your natural lashes sit.
Are lash extensions safe for my natural lashes?
Applied and cared for properly, they should not harm them. We explain why in do lash extensions damage your natural lashes.
